The number of registered unemployed individuals in Norway decreased for the second consecutive month, reaching a seasonally adjusted figure of 62.6 thousand in January 2026, compared to a downwardly revised 63.6 thousand in December. This represents the lowest unemployment rate since April 2025, corresponding to 2.1% of the workforce. The unemployment rate declined for nearly half of the occupational sectors, with the lowest rates observed in academic, health, nursing, and care professions, standing at 0.9% of the workforce. In contrast, the construction sector witnessed the highest unemployment rate at 3.6%. Regionally, Troms and Nordland boasted the lowest unemployment rates at 1.3% and 1.8%, respectively, while Østfold recorded the highest at 3.1%. In January, 56,900 job vacancies were advertised, averaging 1,900 per working day, reflecting a 3% decrease compared to the previous year. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the number of fully unemployed individuals increased to 68.9 thousand in January from 62.4 thousand in December 2025.
