30.04.202606:54:02UTC+00France Inflation Surges to 2.2% in April

France’s annual consumer price inflation accelerated to 2.2% in April 2026, up from 1.7% in March and above market expectations of 2.0%, according to a preliminary estimate. This is the highest rate since July 2024 and is largely attributable to a sharp increase in energy costs—particularly oil—linked to the conflict in the Middle East. The EU-harmonized inflation rate also rose, reaching 2.5%, marking the first time since August 2024 that France has exceeded the ECB’s 2% target. Energy prices jumped 14.2% after a 7.4% gain in March, while services inflation edged up to 1.9% from 1.7%. By contrast, food inflation slowed to 1.3% from 1.8%, and prices for manufactured goods continued to fall.
