30.01.202609:17:25UTC+00Germany Unemployment Rate Steady at 6.3%

In January 2026, Germany's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 6.3%, underscoring the sluggish and inconsistent recovery in Europe's largest labor market. According to Andrea Nahles, head of the Labor Office, the job market continues to exhibit a lack of economic momentum. Employment levels have largely stagnated, and hiring demand remains low, indicating a fragile rebound following two years of economic contraction. External pressures, such as ongoing U.S. tariffs, have heightened the challenges, particularly impacting exports and the broader industrial sector. The number of unemployed individuals stayed constant at 2.98 million, counter to the anticipated increase of 4,000. Meanwhile, on a non-seasonally adjusted basis, unemployment climbed by 176,600, reaching 3.08 million, the highest figure in nearly 12 years.
